Shane Hale – MLA Course Tutor
This course is led by experienced professionals, including Shane Hales, a respected locksmith in London, with skills in both the carpentry and locksmithing trades.
Shane brings decades of real-world experience with a long and proud career in carpentry and joinery, alongside a deep passion for locks and door security. He previously ran a large and successful development business employing numerous skilled carpenters. His qualifications include full distinctions in carpentry with City & Guilds/NVQ to advanced levels, and he is a Fellow of the Institute of Carpenters — a title that demands high-level credentials and passing the Institute’s own exams.
In 2007, Shane was awarded the prestigious Master Carpenter’s Certificate, held by only around 150–200 professionals nationwide. The award was presented at Carpenters’ Hall in London, in recognition of excellence in craft and contribution to the trade. He is also a Licentiate of the City & Guilds Institute (Level 4 PRA) — a rare professional recognition awarded for outstanding practical and leadership abilities.
Shane has mentored many successful apprentices, with a teaching approach grounded in professionalism, craftsmanship, and pride in one’s work.
This course isn’t just about fixing damage — it’s about professional pride and confidence. You’ll learn to deliver not just quick fixes, but long-term, high-quality repairs that truly secure a property and give your clients peace of mind. As Shane Hales puts it:
“Why work on a door or frame that’s not fit for purpose?”
“Coming on the course can show you how to carry out repairs that not only look professional, but also restore structural integrity. When you get a photograph of a break-in, feel relaxed — not filled with dread — because you understand exactly how to fix it. Have to replace an obsolete lock with nothing modern that fits? No problem. This course gives you the confidence to repair and replace professionally.”
