A lot of people new to locksmithing think that after a 3-day course they can earn £60K a year sadly this is probably unrealistic.
You are always learning as a locksmith this is due to the continuous development of new products; these require new perception and techniques on the part of the locksmith.
A locksmiths craft is very diverse as there are also many specialist fields; some locksmiths will have a business that covers some of these fields ( e.g key cutting, uPVC locks, access control ), some businesses will specialise in one area ( e.g security safe specialists ).
Often a local locksmith may be able to offer you work as an “apprentice” (although there is currently no formal apprenticeships in locksmithing this is something that the MLA is working on alongside the industry’s skills body Skills for Security).
Another way to gain an understanding of the industry is to attend our 5-day beginner’s locksmith course here at MLA’s Training Centre in Rugby, Warwickshire.
The dates of the current courses can be found on our course dates page and early booking is recommended, as courses always prove very popular.
