Home > News > Gate Safety Week – Poorly Fitted Gates Can Cause Fatalities
For years the Master Locksmiths Association has worked closely with the DHF and we are very pleased to work with them in order to promote the vital message of automated gate security.
These days locksmiths do far more than just locks & keys and are becoming more and more security engineers. A number of locksmiths get involved in powered gates for home and business, and we are therefore eager to promote the message of making sure all gates are safe.
We are therefore happy to back Gate Safety Week
Taking place 13-19 Oct 2014 Gate Safety Week has been set up by Door and Hardware Federation (DHF) Powered Gate Group. If you have powered gates and are worried about their safety, plan to have powered gates installed then the week will be of value.
Due to the unfortunate number of accidents involving powered gates Gate Safety Week is aimed to create awareness around powered gates that may have been poorly installed, not maintained or have the incorrect safety devices attached.
The fitting of automated gates is growing in popularity for commercial, public and domestic properties.
However poorly installed and/or maintained gates can lead to accidents and in some instances fatalities, including children.
Unfortunately, some installers are cutting corners and not fitting the appropriate safety devices. A number of installers are also unaware of their legal obligations.
Professional installers who work within the powered and automated gates industry have a duty of care and legal responsibility with regards to the gates they install, maintain/service.
Unfortunately, accidents do take place and education surrounding Gate Safety Week will see the production of a guidance toolkit in order to help raise awareness of installer responsibilities.
We have over 340 Locksmiths in the UK vetted by the UK’s largest locksmiths association.
